5 EASY WAYS TO HELP PREVENT TYPE 2 DIABETES

Type 2 Diabetes affects 12% of the U.S. population, and the number of individuals who have the disease but are undiagnosed could raise that number up to 22%. Type 2 Diabetes, although treatable, is easily prevented.  Here are 5 great tips to help you stay healthy.

5) GET PLENTY OF FIBER IN YOUR DIET

Foods that are high in fiber content are usually associated with tasting gross, but this is far from the case.  Beans, figs, avocado, and pears are all extremely high in fiber and all taste great.  Fiber fills you up quicker so you lose more weight, gives your body more control over blood sugar levels, and lowers your risk for heart disease.

4) GET MORE PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

This and #3 go hand in hand.  If you get more physical activity and eat right, you’ll lose weight, and if you lose weight, you’ll end up being able to get more physical activity.  Exercise helps improve blood flow, and also increases your body’s ability to fight off infection.

3) SHED THOSE EXCESS POUNDS

You don’t need to go on an entire transformational journey by losing insane amounts of body weight.  Some studies have shown that losing just 7% of your body weight, 14 lbs. if you weigh 200, and exercising can help reduce your risk of developing type 2 diabetes by up to 60%.

2) EAT HEALTHIER

You don’t have to change your entire lifestyle, just trade some things out for others.  Put more fruits and vegetables into your daily routine, or try and eat turkey bacon instead of regular bacon.  It’s easier said than done, but eating healthier foods can dramatically affect your health and how you feel overall.

1) STOP DRINKING SWEETENED DRINKS

Just stop.  Right now.  If you have a soda in your hand or on your desk, throw it out.  Sodas do absolutely nothing for you except give your body useless sugars.  Doctors aren’t quite sure why, but even diet or sugar free sodas have been shown to increase health risks.  Substitute them for something healthier like coffee (without the milk and sugar) or a nice cold glass of water.
