FIGHTING FATIGUE PT. II
For many adults, anxiety and depression are two of the leading causes of fatigue. Anxiety puts your body in a perpetual “flight-or-fight” mode that over time wears down your immune system. Some symptoms commonly experienced are chest pain and a fluttery feeling in the heart. Depression can be even worse because many individuals don’t see a physician until they’ve progressed deep into their condition – they don’t have the drive to care for themselves and usually become withdrawn.
Causes of anxiety and depression can sometimes be attributed to hormone imbalance. Remedies look different for each person and can range from antidepressants, therapy, meditation, or exercise.
SOLUTION 1
Exercise is a great stress-reliever. Even if you “feel” like you’re too tired, you’d be surprised at how well your body responds to movement. If you’re feeling a bit lethargic, exercising may be the last thing you’d think to do, but studies show that moderate amounts can actually improve your mood. Regular exercise will provide you with more energy, help you get better sleep at night and improve your mood throughout the day! The hardest part about exercising is getting started. Surround yourself with people who support you and will be an encouragement and example to you throughout the start of your fitness regimen. Exercise can and will make a big difference, not only in combating fatigue, but for your overall well-being.
SOLUTION 2
Just like different cars need different types of fuel and their efficiency is directly affected to its quality, your body is directly affected by the types of food that make up your diet. You may think you’re eating right, but you could be doing it wrong.
Fruits and vegetables are a major part of a healthy diet and contain fewer calories. However, they don’t provide the long duration energy that comes from proteins and complex carbohydrates found in grains, breads, pasta, rice, and legumes.
A diet comprised primarily of sugars (sweets, junk food, sodas) will definitely give you surges of energy, but the crash will come just as fast. When the crash hits it can make you feel like you’re about to pass out. For more balanced, reliable energy, you need a diet that is higher in protein and complex carbohydrates but low in sugars and fats.
