TOP 5 THINGS TO DO IN HOUSTON’S HERMANN PARK
Hermann Park is one of Houston’s most visited attractions. Situated almost in the heart of downtown, the 445-acre plot of land has an attraction for everyone in the family to enjoy. Now that the cold winter months are waning away, it’s time to get out and enjoy the city that we all love. Take a look at the five most enjoyable things to do in Hermann Park this spring.
5) GO FOR A PICNIC
The vast acreage of Hermann Park allows for tons of picnic opportunities. You could find a spot over by Mecom fountain or search for one of the newly created tables by Lake Plaza. You could even stop in at Pinewood café for a bite to eat if you forgot to bring your picnic basket.
4) STOLL THROUGH BAYOU PARKLAND
This 80-acre stretch of land is home to a large number of Texas-native plants and wildlife. It even boasts a pavilion for passers by to stop for a rest on their hike through the trails. Now is the perfect time to mosey through and see the beautiful wildflowers in bloom.
3) TAKE A RIDE ON THE HERMANN PARK TRAIN
The Hermann Park train has been delighting visitors throughout its 50-year existence. With the option to jump on at one of any four boarding stations, the Hermann Park train is a wonderful way for visitors old and young to see everything that the park has to offer.
2) GET ZEN IN THE JAPANESE GARDEN
One of the most beautiful attractions in Hermann Park is also one of the newest. Dedicated in May of 1992, the Japanese Garden was designed by renowned architect Ken Nakajima, who wanted to use natural objects and scenery as the architecture for the garden.
1) THE HOUSTON MUSEUM OF NATURAL SCIENCE
The Museum of Natural Science, abbreviated the HMNS, contains some of the most wonderful artifacts and relics that the world has to offer. Some exhibits include the Farrish Hall of Texas Wildlife, which contains a wide variety of plants and animals native to Texas, and the Hall of Ancient Egypt, which boasts hundreds of artifacts that date back thousands of years.
These five attractions just scratch the surface of what you can do in Houston’s oldest and largest park. It’s impossible to take the entire park in one day, but don’t give up on it just for that reason.
